Designing India’s first ever public charging infrastructure app.

Introduction

Ather Grid is a network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations established by Ather Energy, an Indian electric scooter manufacturer. Ather Grid aims to address the infrastructure challenge for electric vehicles by providing charging solutions across various locations, primarily in urban areas.

Inceptions

With the advent of Ather Energy's electric vehicles (EVs) hitting the streets, the need for a robust support system became paramount. Much like traditional gas stations or petrol pumps, Ather introduced its network of charging stations, Ather Grid, strategically located throughout the city. As EV adoption surged, the demand for an efficient and user-friendly app became apparent.

The challenge was clear:

Develop an app capable of supporting Ather customers and EV users alike, providing them with seamless access to charging infrastructure. While the task was daunting, the scope was well-defined, setting the stage for innovation and convenience in the world of sustainable mobility.

we moved into action-Leveraging insights from benchmarking exercises with existing players abroad, we gained valuable perspectives that guided our approach.

Additionally, conducting ground-level research with EV owners provided us with firsthand insights, shaping a clear direction for the MVP. This iterative process allowed us to align our efforts with user needs and industry standards, setting a strong foundation for the development of our EV charging app.

The MVP

Locating Charging Stations: Accurately identify EV charging stations across India, detailing charging types, availability, and vehicle compatibility.

Real-Time Availability : Provide live updates on charging station availability to help users plan their journeys effectively.

Navigation Integration: Seamlessly integrate with navigation apps for route planning, highlighting charging stations along the way.

Payment and Booking:  Enable secure in-app payments and advance booking options for charging services.  

Charging Compatibility: Display supported charging standards for each station to ensure compatibility with users' EVs.  

User Reviews and Ratings: Access user-generated reviews for informed decision-making on station selection.  

EV Data Integration: Incorporate EV data like battery level for personalized charging recommendations  

Environmental Impact: Showcase environmental benefits of EV adoption to promote sustainability.  

Community Engagement: Foster community interaction through forums or social media integration for sharing experiences and tips.  

With the MVP defined, we swiftly gathered to create quick and pragmatic wireframes. These initial sketches proved invaluable for aligning our team and identifying any gaps in our vision. They served as a tangible foundation, aiding us in visualizing the user flow and refining our approach moving forward.

Wireframes

Just before finalizing our approach, we crafted a set of wireframes to capture the essence of our vision. These wireframes acted as a bridge between concept and execution, allowing us to iteratively refine our ideas.

The visual Direction

Crafting the visual designs was a meticulous process that demanded considerable time and effort. We embarked on a journey of iteration, exploring multiple versions to hone in on the perfect representation of our vision.
